The design of many of today’s business-critical Z applications involve components from multiple disciplines, including CICS, Db2, MQ, and IMS. This places a premium on having visibility into the rich SMF metrics produced by all these disciplines and on staff members who can operate with at least some level of proficiency across multiple disciplines.
This is the second in a series of IBM Z IntelliMagic Academy webinars designed to help today’s Z performance analysts and infrastructure specialists grow their skills and expertise across disciplines. These webinars will present performance concepts to the broad Z technical community and are especially designed to introduce those concepts to audiences who are not currently specialists in that field.
This webinar will introduce you to how you can leverage analysis of Db2 Statistics (SMF 100) and Db2 Accounting (101) data to enhance performance and availability in your environment.
Topics covered will include:
- How Db2’s extensive buffer pool metrics can be leveraged to inform buffer pool tuning activities
- Examining the differing profiles of work generated by the various callers of Db2 services (“Connection Type”), including CPU and SQL activity, suspend events, and elapsed time profiles
- Exploring the visibility provided by Correlation ID into the specific drivers of Db2 activity (e.g., by CICS transaction, batch job, etc.)
- How focusing analysis of DDF work by Authorization ID can help manage what is often a challenging workload
- Introducing important Db2 operational insights that can be derived from integration with other SMF data types, including CICS transaction (SMF 110.1) data.
